8th Annual Golf Tournament

This year’s event was held down at Deer Creek Golf Course. Food/Beverage donations as follows: Donuts from Krispy Kreme, Coffee from Starbucks, and 5 cases of beer from Tallgrass.

Our event included the banquet where Rayna, our Make-A-Wish adoptee, spoke and thanked the crowd for their donation and she discussed what her plans were for the back yard.  The banquet was a BBQ buffet and cupcakes were donated by Shannon Winckler. Photos were taken by Ashley Weber (Larkin, Lamp, Rynearson) and Matt Gillotti. 18 participating sponsorships this year; between $8000 and $8500 raised for Make-A-Wish!

Project Lead the Way

Project Lead the Way needs your help! Bob Sauer (Industrial Technology teacher with Lee’s Summit High School) is building a list of engineering professionals for his “Principles of Engineering” course. In this course, students are required to do a telephone interview (list of required questions listed below) with an engineer to learn about their career and the schooling it took to get there. The students seem to get a lot out of this assignment as most students can only relate to some basic career categories, i.e., doctor, teacher, fireman. This assignment really opens their eyes to different engineering career choices and Mr. Sauer enjoys seeing them form an opinion about the specific engineering discipline(s) they might be interested in pursuing.

1.       Personal information:

a.       Interviewee name

b.      Interviewee’s specific degree

c.       Interviewee’s place of employment

d.      Interviewee’s email address and/or phone

2.       Please describe your engineering field.

3.       What is your current job title?

4.       Please describe your particular job and duties.

5.       What is your average work schedule?

6.       Starting with high school, describe your educational background chronologically.

7.       If you had it to do over, related to your career or education, would you do anything differently?

8.       What advice would you give to me as someone interested in pursuing a career path similar to yours?

Mr. Sauer is requesting a name, engineering discipline, email address, and telephone number to add to his master list. Unfortunately, this is the very first assignment in the curriculum and they will be picking disciplines to research the week of August 19th. Please let us know if you’d be willing to help promote the engineering field and shape young minds. Please note a quick response is requested (student deadline of August 19th). If interested, please contact Kurt Krassick (kkrasick@olssonassociates.com).
