Professional Development Opportunity

When: Tuesday, Dec 1.  (5:30 dinner, 6:00 presentation)

Where: GBA office – lower level training room
GBA
9801 Renner Blvd
Lenexa, KS  66219

Presenter: Jennifer Gunby, GBA, P.E., LEED AP

Topic: LEED for the Civil Engineer

LEED has typically been related to only building design and architects.  However, with the push for “green”, the concepts that the LEED system implements are ideas that Civil Engineers in any specialty can use for their projects.  This presentation will briefly explain the LEED process and then describe some methods and design options that Civil Engineers can implement into their projects to provide a more sustainable solution.

ASCE will be providing food for this event.  Therefore, please RSVP to Holly by Wednesday, November 25th (Yes, this is tomorrow) so Holly can order the proper amount of food and have enough seats for everyone.

Contact Holly Boomsma hboomsma@gbateam.com to RSVP or for more info.

Future Cities Volunteers Needed

Please volunteer your time to mentor middle school students around the metro in the Future city Competition.  It only takes approximately 1-2 hours a week between Oct to Jan.  As a mentor you will give guidance to 3 person teams as they design a city using Sim City, then build a scaled model of their city, write a paper and prepare a presentation for the regional competition at KU. The regional competition is in January of 2010.  For more information on the future cities competitions check out this website: http://www.futurecity.org/.   Teams are organizing and need mentors.
